public transport

Why is public transport so bad?

At the weekend we went into London to a friend’s party at Canary Wharf. We decided to go by train to save time and money on parking (foolish, I know…). To drive would have taken about 2 hours and about £30 petrol and parking. Surely the train/tube would be faster and cheaper?

Err, no. £23 each and 3 hours later we got to the party. That was not too bad, on the way back it took 3.5 hours. Still, at least we were “entertained” by the drunk rugby fans shouting and throwing up all over the carriage. Mmmm, that was nice.

London has the best public transport in the UK and it still seems worse than driving. I am not sure what could be/should be done to improve it but surely there must be something.
